Project Overview

CitySpaces is working with the Council of Yukon First Nations to coordinate the predevelopment phases of a mixed-use project in Whitehorse, comprising a Yukon First Nations Childcare Centre and Safe Second Stage Housing. The facility will offer culturally appropriate early learning and childcare services for 30 Yukon First Nations children, alongside 11 transitional family apartments. Currently in the predevelopment stage, the project aims to begin construction in 2026.

Key Highlights

The Yukon First Nations Childcare Centre and Safe Second Stage Housing Project will be co-located on the same site as the existing Family Preservation and Wellness Centre, which provides culturally appropriate short-term emergency accommodation and support services. This expansion enhances the Council of Yukon First Nations’ capacity to offer a comprehensive continuum of care for women and children seeking assistance.

The project is guided by two needs assessments, one focused on childcare and the other on second-stage housing, conducted by the CitySpaces planning team. The assessments ensure that the project’s design and services are deeply rooted in the lived experiences of Yukon First Nations women and children, as well as the expertise of dedicated individuals and organizations serving them.
