Project Overview
Chown Place Phase 1 (The Oaks) and Phase 2 are part of a five-phase redevelopment of the Gorge View Society’s 5.5-acre property. The redevelopment is allowing the Society to increase its community impact by providing moreaffordable, stable, and community-focused housing to seniors and families. Finished in 2023, Phase 1 included a four-storey building with 58-homes, a lounge, roof terrace, outdoor play space for children, and extensive landscaping and food growing areas. Phase 2 began construction in 2025 and will comprise 68-apartments in a six-storey building, nine townhouses, a central amenity building, and some underground parking.
Key Highlights
CitySpaces has been the Development Manager for both phases, working with the Gorge View Society from early design and project team procurement through all design stages, funding and regulatory approvals, construction through to occupancy. Key project considerations have been the large population of existing seniors that require phased relocation, environmentally sensitive Garry Oak meadows, and pockets of underground rock. The two phases have been developed with different construction management companies under a CM-at-Risk model. Both CitySpaces and Gorge View Society are actively collaborating to ensure successful construction, with minimal impacts on existing tenants.
