Project Overview
CitySpaces is engaged as the Development Consultant for the Association of Neighbourhood Houses to manage the redevelopment of Cedar Cottage Neighbourhood House in Vancouver. The project involves the redevelopment of a 50+ year old neighbourhood house into a new 18,000 sq. ft. facility to allow for community-focused programs, including childcare (37 infant/toddler spaces), adult day program, community living room and kitchen, rooftop terrace, and other multipurpose and cultural wellness spaces. The project is particularly unique in its social procurement process, delivered through a strategic partnership with Kʷasən-Naikoon Joint Venture. Construction began in Spring 2025 and is anticipated to reach completion by early 2027.
Key Highlights
Cedar Cottage Neighbourhood House serves a diverse community, with specific programs and services aimed at the local urban Indigenous population. Applying an ‘Indigenous lens’ has been a guiding principle throughout the redevelopment project, shaping the design intent, procurement process, land ceremonies and blessings, and many other elements of the development. Kʷasən-Naikoon, an Indigenous-led joint venture company, was selected as the project’s Construction Manager; this partnership has fostered cultural awareness training and emphasized rebuilding the local Indigenous economy by creating opportunities for inclusive participation.
