The Town of Lake Cowichan is exceptionally well-positioned to expand its service and amenity infrastructure to take full advantage of tourism growth on Vancouver Island. The Lake Cowichan Downtown Revitalization Strategy, which arose from a comprehensive participation process, was founded on a heritage theme associated with forestry. This PIBC award-winning strategy has three main directions:
1) enlivening streetscapes,
2) establishing a waterfront network of parks and trails, and
3) improving signage.
A 13-step action plan, to be phased over 10 to 15 years, accompanied the Lake Cowichan Downtown Revitalization Strategy, along with an order-of-magnitude costing. Potential funding opportunities for the strategy were identified in a separate report.
