In 2009, Bowen Island embarked on an update of its Official Community Plan. CitySpaces worked with Bowen Island Municipality and the Official Community Plan Update Steering Committee to bring the Plan into alignment with Provincial legislation, the Islands Trust Policy Statement and Municipal bylaws, and to make the Plan easier to read and navigate.
The updated Plan takes into account local, regional and global changes since 1996 and acknowledges significant societal shifts, with more emphasis on sustainability, energy conservation, food security, green living, and affordable housing. Detailed regulatory statements that fit better with zoning, subdivision and building bylaws were removed.
CitySpaces coordinated and facilitated public consultation activities for the Bowen Island Official Community Plan Update including focus group meetings, open houses, newsletters and a project website. The work was completed and the Official Community Plan adopted in 2011.
