What started as a dream in 2008, is approaching reality. With a $20-million, one-time contribution toward capital costs, the BC Government is helping the Pacific Autism Family Centre achieve its goal to be a centre of excellence, and a valued resource for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families, wherever they live in BC.
The PAFC society will use a hub-and-spoke concept. The hub, located in East Vancouver will link with smaller spoke locations throughout BC. These will be staffed with “navigators” to assist families and individuals. The City, the owner of the site, has been very supportive. If all goes well, the Centre will be fully operational in 2014.
Principal Gwyn Symmons has worked with this dedicated group since its beginnings, and other CitySpaces’ planners travelled throughout BC to meet with families who face incredible challenges to finding and accessing resources. We look forward to continuing to work with the Society navigating the approvals and construction processes. To find out more about this project, please visit the Pacific Autism Family Centre website.
