Eighty percent of Canadian homeless people don’t live on the street. Instead, they live in their cars, in church basements, on the floors and couches of friends and family, and many other discreet places that remain hidden from view, these are examples of the invisibly homeless. The annual Homelessness Action Week (formerly known as Homelessness Awareness Week) takes places across British Columbia, this year from October 12-18th.
CitySpaces is taking part of Homelessness Action Week by donating to both Victoria’s Project Connect, and Vancouver’s RainCity Housing. There is still time to get involved, details below:
There are many things we all need to be healthy and happy. Each year Victoria’s Project Connect hands out approximately 700 care packs to attendees. The care packs are customized for each individual and filled with essential items for the coming winter. At the Project Connect event, taking place October 21st, Attendees receive a BBQ lunch and a wide range of free services, including; care packs, medical attention, ID replacement, haircuts, pet care and much more.
A list of most needed items can be found here: http://victoriahomelessness.ca/get-involved/project-connect
During Homelessness Action Week, and all year around the following items are always welcome at Vancouver’s RainCity Housing: blankets, socks, gently used clothing (adult only), towels, bed linens (preferably single or standard size), toiletries (including full bars of new soap, shampoo, razors, toothpaste, toothbrushes, sanitary products), dishes and mugs.
