Blizzard Mountain Place Brings 31 New Homes to Fruitvale
Fruitvale, BC — October 24, 2025 — Blizzard Mountain Place has opened in Fruitvale, adding 31 one-, two-, and three-bedroom non-market homes to the community.
“This is a very exciting moment in the history of the Society as we finally fulfill a long-held goal to establish affordable housing in Fruitvale,” said Jan Morton, President, Lower Columbia Affordable Housing Society. “Inspired by the vision of the Village for the former middle school land and supported financially by various generous funders, we are proud to be opening these new, energy efficient homes for families, seniors, and adults with diverse abilities.”
Standing as one of Fruitvale’s largest residential developments to-date, the three-storey building provides housing for seniors, families, and adults with diagnosed diverse abilities. On-site features include a gazebo and patio area, community garden plots, and a children’s natural play area.
Operated by the Lower Columbia Affordable Housing Society (LCAHS), Blizzard Mountain Place is a result of a partnership between the federal government, through the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, the Province, through BC Housing, the Village of Fruitvale, Columbia Basin Trust and the Lower Columbia Affordable Housing Society (LCAHS).
Led by CitySpaces Consulting in partnership with the Village of Fruitvale, a master planning process was completed for the former middle school site in 2020. The plan combined community input with technical and financial analysis, laying the groundwork for redevelopment.
CitySpaces later partnered with LCAHS to bring the project to life, acting as development consultant and owner’s representative from concept through construction. Blizzard Mountain Place directly addresses the affordable housing objective of the 2020 Master Plan, providing a range of non-market homes.
“Blizzard Mountain Place is a testament to what thoughtful planning and strong partnerships can achieve. It’s incredibly rewarding to see the project vision realized through the leadership of LCAHS,” said Elizabeth FitzZaland, Senior Development Manager, Director at CitySpaces.
Blizzard Mountain Place was realized through the efforts of a committed project team including project architect Boni Maddison Architects, Nelson-based North Mountain Construction, and design consultants from the region and beyond.
