The BC Provincial Government has announced new measures to reduce rezoning hurdles and allow more homes in communities across the province. The legislation will result in many local governments needing to update Housing Needs Assessments, Official Community Plans, and Zoning Bylaws over the coming years (press release link: https://news.gov.bc.ca/releases/2023PREM0062-001706).
Our team at CitySpaces is well-versed in housing policy planning. We worked with the team at Licker Geospatial Consulting Co. to develop a methodology for local governments to evaluate residential land capacity and how future population growth can be accommodated. This methodology has been utilized already in Central Saanich as part of their OCP Update (2023), Pitt Meadows to inform their OCP Update (2022), and Port Moody for its Housing Needs Assessment and Housing Action Plan (2021/22).
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about the new legislation or how our team can support you in meeting these new requirements!
