CitySpaces Principal Noha Sedky Inducted into the Canadian Institute of Planners College of Fellows
Vancouver, BC — July 8, 2026 — We are proud to share that CitySpaces Principal and co-owner Noha Sedky has been inducted into the College of Fellows of the Canadian Institute of Planners, the highest professional honour a planner can receive in Canada.
The Fellows designation acknowledges and celebrates planning professionals whose leadership, mentorship, volunteerism, and professional contributions have had a lasting impact on the planning profession in Canada. Noha is one of seven planners from across the country recognized in 2026, joining a distinguished group of 167 Fellows recognized since 1966.
For more than 25 years, Noha has been a transformative leader in Canadian planning, recognized for her influential work in affordable housing research and delivery, homelessness response, housing strategies, and community-based planning across Western Canada and the North. Under her leadership, CitySpaces has also delivered more than 50 social-purpose real estate projects, contributing to complex care and shelter beds to supportive housing and affordable rental homes.
Noha is known for choosing projects based on impact rather than scale, bringing the same dedication to a small community as to a major city. She has supported communities such as Trail, Peachland, and Fruitvale, while also leading major urban projects such as Covenant House Vancouver’s multi-phase youth housing expansion in downtown Vancouver. Her work is grounded in deep listening and meaningful relationships, and a belief that planning should respond to the priorities and lived experiences of the people it affects.
Noha is equally committed to the next generation of planners. Having served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia’s School of Community and Regional Planning, she engaged students to connect classroom learning with real-world housing and community planning challenges. At CitySpaces, she continues to mentor emerging and mid-career planners through collaborative project work, open dialogue, and a culture that encourages curiosity and professional growth.
Noha has also volunteered her time with the Canadian Institute of Planners and Planning Institute of British Columbia, while lending her expertise to community organizations such as Immigrant Services Society of BC, where she serves as a Board Director. Her person-centred approach is reflected in projects such as Surrey is Home: Immigrant Integration Research Project, which helped inform the City of Surrey’s immigrant and refugee settlement strategies and received a Canadian Institute of Planners Award for Excellence in Social Planning.
“Noha’s special combination of rigorous attention to evidence and data, along with a strong sense of social justice informed in part by work experience in developing countries early in her career, is just one of the reasons Noha stands out in her field.” – Guy Patterson, MCIP, Partner, Young Anderson Barristers & Solicitors
“I am deeply honoured to be inducted into the College of Fellows and recognized alongside such an accomplished group of planning professionals,” said Noha. “This recognition reflects the many colleagues, clients, partners, and communities I have had the privilege to work with throughout my career. Planning is fundamentally collaborative and I am grateful to everyone who has been part of that journey.”
The 2026 Fellows were recognized and celebrated during the Awards Luncheon at the 2026 National Planning Conference in Montréal.
A trusted advisor, educator, and community builder, Noha has made an enduring contribution to planning in Canada. Please join us in congratulating her on this well-deserved recognition!
