Project Overview
The City of Cranbrook hired CitySpaces Consulting to facilitate the establishment of a Cranbrook Housing Task Force to support the development of a Housing Strategy. Over the course of five months, our team held biweekly meetings with the Task Force utilizing a consensus building process. The overall aim was to find practical, new directions for the short-, medium-, and long-term, creating ownership for those directions and generating momentum and commitment to actions that will follow.
The Housing Strategy findings highlighted the need for a centralized non-profit organization to oversee the development and management of new affordable housing units. As a follow-up scope, our firm prepared a framework for a new housing entity to set a pathway for local organizations to move forward in delivering housing.
Key Highlights
Our team facilitated the Housing Task Force to develop a vision, identify blocks, develop strategic direction, and craft a detailed action plan to address housing needs. These sessions were held virtually, utilizing Mural as a platform to collaborate. Throughout the task force meetings, our team assisted members in navigating technology and adapted our approach where necessary. The Housing Strategy was informed by previous work done to-date, including a housing need assessment and unit estimates. Grounded in best practice research, the Strategy and follow-up Housing Entity framework is relevant to the local context of Cranbrook. The Housing Task Force remained involved during the development of the framework to foster buy-in as well as continued participation for implementation.
