Workforce Housing Case Studies

Location:
British Columbia & Alberta

Client:
Ministry of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation

Project Overview

CitySpaces was hired by the Ministry of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation to complete a study about workforce housing in rural communities. The full report remains internal, but it provides an overview of how these projects come together, key success factors, and considerations related to scaling up in larger communities. The case studies completed as part of the research are publicly available and provide detailed accounts of specific workforce housing examples in British Columbia and Alberta.

Key Highlights

Each case study highlights examples from small and rural communities with populations under 25,000, spanning coastal, interior, and northern regions. The case studies vary in scale, including communities with just a few completed projects as well as those with substantial portfolios.

Each study offers insights into the key motivations behind workforce housing development and provides valuable information on topics such as operating models, financial contributions and partnerships, enabling land use policies, and community consultation processes.
