Langley Child Care Action Plans

Location:
Langley, British Columbia

Client:
Township of Langley & City of Langley

Project Overview

CitySpaces was engaged by the Township of Langley and City of Langley to complete Child Care Action Plans. The first phase of the project was undertaken in partnership with the City and Township and focused on engagement with parents/guardians, community interest-holders, and child care providers. In total, 1,314 people were engaged through 18 activities related to the action plans. In Phase Two, CitySpaces developed separate Child Care Action Plans tailored to the unique needs and priorities of each municipality.

Key Highlights

CitySpaces conducted best practices research to inform the development of a customized methodology for setting child care space creation targets. The targets established were 70 spaces per 100 children aged 5 and under, and 55 spaces per 100 children aged 6 to 12. Achieving these targets will require strong collaboration with the Province and local interest-holders to support the expansion of child care spaces.

These Child Care Action Plans are the first of their kind for both municipalities. They offer a strategic roadmap to guide space creation, address existing and emerging challenges, and leverage new opportunities, working in partnership with community collaborators.
