Vergo affordable townhouses is an 18-unit complex comprised of one, two, and three-bedroom townhouses and was constructed as part of the redevelopment of the former Mount View School site in Victoria, BC. CitySpaces led the construction development working with Chow Low Hammond Architects.
Built with the intention of providing affordable housing in the capital region, Vergo affordable townhouses are owned and operated by Capital Region Housing Corporation and provide rental housing for families of moderate income.
To be considered for housing, the maximum household income cannot exceed $64,000. All two and three bedroom units are reserved for families with at least one child.
In 2012 the rents at Vergo consisted of:
- 7 three-bedroom – $1,375
- 3 two-bedroom with garage – $1,225
- 4 two-bedroom without garage – $1,200
- 4 one-bedroom – $725
Vergo affordable townhouses are LEED rated (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design), and designed with upgraded insulation and windows, natural light, energy efficient appliances and light fixtures, low VOC paint and floor coverings, and natural landscaping.
All residents living at Vergo affordable townhouses are required to attend an education seminar on the project’s energy efficiency.
Mount View Heights Plan
Vergo is a component of the overall redevelopment plan for Mount View Heights. The plan includes:
- Approximately 400 residential units for seniors in a “Campus of Care” setting that will provide a continuum of independent, assisted and acute care facilities in four, six and seven-storey buildings
- Olympic Vista Apartments, a three-storey, 36-unit, apartment building for people recovering from homelessness
- Vergo Townhouses
- A neighbourhood park (0.54 hectare/1.3 acres)
- A seven-storey residential, or office, building
